Numerical Investigation of the Propulsive Efficiency of a Containership under Load Variation

Abstract The International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) suggests that determining the variations of propulsion efficiency can be achieved by model tests may costly and inefficient. This is reason why this paper investigates variation factors under various ship loading conditions computational fluid dynamics (CFD). study proposed a non-iterative method for load reduced time. CFD software Star-CCM+ was used to solve transient free-surface Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations. To further reduce time, propeller modeled using actuator disk method. resistance augmentation, wake fraction, container KCS with KP505 were studied. These values calculate coefficient shaft revolution speed ζ N delivered power P at full scale. results showed as increased, rotation rate correspondingly increased maintain service speed. As hull open water efficiencies decreased, when assumed relative rotative 1.0, quasi-propulsion also decreased.
